[Docket: Certificate B[undecipherable] James Woods & Clough Shelton]
I do Certify that Bazil Middleton Esq. was appointed a Surgeon in the Virginia line in the beginning of 1777, continued to Act as such till the Reduction of Charleston in 1780, was exchanged in 1781, and I am informed joined the Southern Army after his Exchange. I don't know that Doct. Middleton was ever deranged but believe he was considered as a redundant Surgeon on the arrangement made at Winchester in January 1783, as there was but one Surgeon / Doct Baldwin arranged at that time. Given under my hands 23d April 1785.
