Dear Sir,
I thank you for your favor of the first instant, which I this day had the pleasure to receive.
Your statement of the present situation of the preference is the only one I have received on the subject.
Your plan appears to me to be highly judicious. Any [undecipherable] accommodation on our part, would be greatly injurious to the interests we represent. I will thank you & Mr Bickham to decide upon it in conjunction with the Messrs Winslows who are doubly interested in this matter to what I am.
I shall always entertain a grateful sense for your exertions in this affair, besides being ready to make you the necessary pecuniary advances.
Virginia whose antifederal dispositions were manifested by its late legislation, has on a fair appeal to the people, in the election of representation, exhibited a great change of opinion, six or seven out of ten representatives being avowedly federal, elected as such, and were opposed by Anti-federal candidates.
The ten Electors also who met, gave every vote to Genl Washington, and five to Mr J. Adams — The other five votes for Vice President having been thrown away —
Mr Adams has on the whole 33 votes which amply secures him the office of Vice President —
I am Dear Sir
With great respect
Your most obedient
humble Servant
H Knox
