Regarding how long to make out a Regimental account
Document 1789DeHass had asked how long it takes to make out a Regimental account. Howell notes that this depends on whether the person is acquainted with the nature of army accounts, and on the nature of the accounts themselves; some are more complete than others. Mentions the accounts of deHaas' father, which took four weeks to examine and state.

Sir —
In answer to your request of "how long it wo'd take
to make out a regimental account" I have to observe that
a person acquainted with the nature of army accounts
would take but a little time compared with that of another
uninformed in the buisness, besides it is to be further known
that it greatly depends upon the accounts themselves as
some are much more complex than others and to decide
on this question a person should be acquainted with
the very accounts alluded to —
The accounts of your late father were (to
the best of my recollection) examined & filed by me in about
four weeks —
