If Congress name you, as the person, to decide on the merits of my proposition, which they probably will do, it will give you constant & necessary Influence with them, as knowing the principle — this you may not want, but it can do no sort of Injury — As my presence will not be thought so immediately necessary, I wish you to use your influence for me, in case a Consul is named to this Court. I should not require immediate advances, as if sent on purpose from America.
