Agreeably to your request I enclose you a list of errors which have appeared in the course of my examination of the accounts of the Coast guards and militia of your State — In the course of next week I flatter my[self I shall be at] [undecipherable] depreciation acc[ounts] those persons who left the service previous to the 10^th Apr.^t 1780 of admitting the supplies from the State will amount to nearly one third of the whole charge exhibited, I do not find that you have calculated the interest on depreciation & presuming each State will expect to be allowed it, you will please to inform me at what period the interest commenced on the certificates issued for depreciation — Jam. &c. Clarkson as Postmaster to the army under the marques de la Fayette — all I know about that business is that M^r. Clarkson was Postmaster at Williamsburg, & probably the army business fell into his hands, but I never knew that he had a seperate commission for that purpose, he is still indebted to the public as post-master at Williamsburg, & I apprehend it will be just to discount that from his pay as army post-master if any allowance is made him on that account Jam. &c. &c. Gen.^d are directed to Col.^d Carrington, and as it appears by the dates that he has made Settlements with Col.^d Carrington since he got those certificates, I cannot conjecture why they were not included. I think Col.^d Carrington desired that no claim in his dep.^t should be settled but such as appeared in his Books, or were authenticated by him, be it as it may, his approbation is necessary to make them regular — I made some notes on the inclosed return of Settlements made in Connecticut for depreciations — can you not ascertain the inclusive dates of the time they were paid?
