Capt John Thatcher commanded a company in Cols Hemar [undecipherable] regiment, raised for the aforesaid service and mustered in June 1776 from the State $352[undecipherable] is in full [undecipherable] of his Company which sum is charged to the United States, though no Vouchers or accounts have ever been obtained, upon a condition that in case Capt Thatcher shall not account for the whole of the monies advanced; the deficiency is to be remitted in Settlement of the State accounts, as may appear from the accounts transmitted to Jonathan Pickell esqr on the 25th of October last.
It will be indispensible that Capt Thatcher account in the office for the above mentioned sum before his pension is settled & that he produce evidence from the Commissioners of Army Accounts, that he has satisfactorily applied the monies entrusted to him for the purpose designed, in such manner that the charge of the State for said monies shall be allowed to Stand upon the same principles and be entitled to the same consideration and allowance as the other accounts of the State for similar advances which had been settled with the late committee of Pay Table.
