West Point Nov^r 5^th 1788 — Sir I forwarded by the Bearer M^r Hall on the 9^th July last two three pounders with their implements, for which M^r Pemberton has given a receipt upon the Invoice — and for which he informs me he has not received the pay for transportation — If that should be the Case — you will please to pay him of Convenience, as the Secretary at War in his letter of July 3^d give me no directions to do it — neither have I any Money — I have [strikethrough: not] made no agreement with him about the [undecipherable] — I am Sir &c M^r William Knox — Sir West Point Nov^r 6^th 1788 — Agreeable to your letter of June 12^th 1788, I now forward receipts for one hundred and thirty four Suits of Uniform Clothing, which I received at that time, also a Return of the same — I now find by this Conveyance the Returns of Ordnance and Quarter Masters Stores, Including the Months of July, August, Sept and Oct^r 1788 — I am sorry to inform you the Pickets round the Magazine on Constitution [undecipherable: probable reading Island] has been blown down by the high winds, and the foundation is so rotten as to make it quite irreparable in its present form — unless it is all taken down to the Stone work, which is too late this fall as the weather is so uncertain — I shall make it answer for this winter some how or other — But I should propose that all the wood and earth be taken away next Spring down to the Stone work, and in lieu thereof put a roof from the Magazine to the [strikethrough: outer] outer edge of the wall all [undecipherable: probable reading around], which I think is the Cheapest and best to keep it tight — and it will be full as as secure as at present — If you should approve of this or any other measure — please to inform me and I will make an estimate for the purpose — I am Sir &c — The Honorable Major General Knox Secretary at War —
