Nicholas — the D^r purposes to set out from Philadelphia next Friday Monday evening Nov^r 3. 1783 — Memorandum — For D^r Johnston Call upon Cap^t Howell in New York for a certified copy of three receipts given by Capt Abraham Smith for Maj^r Dunlaps pay in the 6 Pennsylvania regiment 1775. V^iz. one rec^t for 2 months pay and one rec^t for one months pay recvd from Col^o Trumbull — also one other rec^t to Mare & Colwell for Two thousand doll^rs in which it is presumed the remainder of Dunlaps pay was included — I would wish Capt Howal to mention particularly as he did to me that I cannot receive any pay from the public untill the last mentioned rec^t is settled by Abram Smith, then Cap^t of the Regiment — and who had the setting of the acc^ts — J^no Dunlap
