[W^m Knox War Office Oct^r 23^d 1788] War Office Oct^r 23. 1788 Sir I should have written you previous to this period, on the Subject of the money necessary to be advanced for the objects of Lieu^t Brotts march and requested an order for the Same, but having had reason to expect the arrival of the Secretary at War, either at Hartford or New york by this time. I have delayed writing you. The clothing for the Regiments being to go on with Lieu^t Bratt will require a different arrangement with respect to the amount of Money to be advanced, from what would have been wanted for the transportation of the baggage of this party only — The Contract for the Clothing having been formed Subsequent to Gen^l Knox departure from this City, no directions Stipulating the amount necessary for the transportation of the Same to the frontiers, were left by him; I am therefore induced, to wait his further instructions on this Subject — He arrived at Boston on the evening of the 16^th from the Eastward, and this nights post will most probably bring answers to my letters on this Subject, or he will be on to Hartford in a day or two himself. M^r Bratt informs in a letter of the 19^th Ins^t. that his business is completed at Hartford, and that he Shall march on the 22^d for West Point.
