In the accounts exhibited by the State of Connecticut for the depreciation of pay which I am now examining there appears many Charges against the Officers and Soldiers for Clothing, Supplies Blankets, &c received — I wish you to inform me if the Officers &c gave their receipts for those articles, or on what principles the charges are formed — the head of one of the columns expresses for "Value of money received of the U. States Connecticut & Town" how am I to ascertain the proportion paid by the U. States — In one other column it is expressed the Specie value of money recd from the U States" this induces me to suppose that you are posessed of the returns of the several payments made by the U. States in old Emission to the respective Regiments, by which the Specie Value of the payments to each person have been ascertained. It would save me immenisty of trouble to have those returns. I have therefore to beg you will be pleased to forward Copies of them (Certified by you) and to transmit the Scale by which the specie value has been admitted by the Committee of the pay Table —
