I am much obliged to you for your information respecting Capt Powers claim on what remained due me at the final settlement of the army acct at Philadelphia as I can assure you no such claim exists, as Capt Powers would not purchase any part of that settlement, but what was settled with by the pay master of the Regiment at that time, for which purpose I gave him the necessary orders on Capt Beatty to receive such certificates from the Capt. as was then Settled. Capt Powers cannot shew any legal order on the pay master General for any property of mine that should remain due to me, or granted by the United in any particular State after that settlement in Philadelphia. Therefore am much surprized that Capt Powers shold lay any claim to any certificates or any property of mine but what Received at that time through the channel of Capt Beatty — I shall esteem it particular favor if you will procure for Capt White such certificates as may be due me at this period and your compliance will much oblige Sir your most Obt and huml Servt
