New York Sep^t 29 1788— Sir— I have examined into the claims of Major Croghan, Captain Francis Minnis & Doctor Savage— to the former I have written and enclosed a copy of his account as allowed and settled by the late Commissioner; the letter I have left open for your perusal & beg to trouble you in forwarding it.— Cap^t Francis Minnis does not appear to have had any settlement for his pay & Commutation on the arrangement of the Virginia line in 1782— on file in the War Office, he is among the number of those officers who were superceded on the 15 May 1782 in consequence of a non compliance with certain resolutions entered into by a Board of Officers.— I have no objection to the granting the Commutation and the pay, to the time of his being superceded, but I conceive myself not authorized to extend it further— The claim of Doc^t Savage will take me some time to investigate, I must therefore beg your indulgence for a few days. yours J.
