Dr Sir
I trouble you with this letter principally to beg you will please to assist in procuring the pay of William Codes who is a native of this State, and formerly belonged to the Maryland Line, and moved to the Line of ours, his discharge which is a regular one is on my possession — he says he has not received his depreciation of pay, or final Settlement, nor did he ever sell or transfer either of them, but as he appears both by nature and sickness to be unable to give a clear account of his affairs, he may be mistaken in some degree — you will much oblige me by causing the necessary enquiry to be made and inform me as soon as convenient about his affairs both with respect to pay and Land, the bounty of New York, and how the said bounty can be obtained, the fellow is very infirm, sickly and lame, so that he cannot go to New York himself, which is the reason I give you the present trouble.
