I have to day received a letter from Mr Hews by which he seems pleased with the proposal you made him of having his accounts settled by me, and I shall sail for Portland on the Packet tomorrow for that purpose.

At the same time that I offer my Congratulations on your new Appointment I hope you will excuse the liberty of this address — as the period fixed for Mr Wintles Office will expire on the last of this Month, and supposing that you may find it necessary from an encrease of Business upon the several Commissioners, to employ some additional clerks for that purpose, I beg leave to offer my services and to solicit your countenance.
