September 23^d 1788 Sir In the absence of the Secretary at War, I had the honor to write you on [strikethrough: the] 22^d Ultimo. at the same time enclosed you a resolve of Congress of the 20^th Ultimo. appointing you Agent for the Chickasaw Nation of Indians the first was addressed to the care of, and to be forwarded by the post master at Richmond, and a duplicate to Hillsborough North Carolina with similar directions. I now transmit you a resolve of Congress of the 3^d Instant accompanyng a Proclamation of the same date which is intended to have an extensive circulation, and therefore I take the liberty to enclose you ten copies.
