New York Aug^t 6 1788 Sir I have heard that a Number of Certificates for pay from August 1780 till Jan^y 1781 of Privates of the German Fusileer Reg^t which were delivered to Maj^r Rowan of Hartley and which are now in my hands, have been erroneous and drawn thro' Mistake. I have delivered out some which were of the German Rcement and fear I have done what ought not to have been done, but I know it not, and I have again assisted some of them until I hear from you. W^m John Nicholson Joseph Howell Esq^r Philadelphia Aug 6^th 1788 Sir On my return here last Week Col. Williams informed me that our Action was reported to him that Man have met. Williams produced his Acc^t done by himself and a very erroneous one to the amount of £104.10.6 the Amount sworn by you he refers to these which was 830 dollars. but know Sir I have no powers to pay before them, therefore advantage will be taken; and perhaps well bring in the Report his amount. which will injure not very much. these Men are to meet 4^th Inst. a line from you on this Subject will oblige Sir.
