Sir,
Your letter of the 8th Inst to Mr Pierce came to my Hands this way — in answer to which I have to inform you that the sum of 31½ dollars mentioned by Mr Seaman I have been retained from you is on account of a sum of Money that existed by you to Col Barber when you settle your accounting Demands with the late trustees of the Army— the Generals charge against you for the sum of 10.50 dollars which is appears you advanced or settled with him for 750¼ dollars, there still remains 87¾ dollars to be accounted for, this I presume to be the reason why Mr Seaman Has prevented him from replying to your letter and explaining this Delay from Sir, Mr Hnl Servt
