John Pierce Esqr
A copy of the Letter alluded to in the foregoing.
New Haven July 16 1788.
Sir
I have received several letters from your subsistence and never have answered one on account of the papers being mis-laid & sickness. The paper I have found, therefore take the first opportunity of informing you of the circumstances.
There is due you in Pierces Certificates, which rest in the hands of Mr Pierce Commissioner of accounts £4 ¾ ⅘ part of 4p. Interest commenced the 1st April 1780; which was retained in consequence of a small debt supposed due the Public, which Mr Pierce will explain to you — he is now in Hartford. — I recommend you to send your order officially sign'd to him, as an officer in the late 6 Connect Regt
I am yours with respect &c.
