Mr Lee requests Mr Howell to examine the inclosed & [undecipherable] the Certificate that may be due upon it
June 22d 1788.
The Invalids who were stationed at West Point under the command of Capt. McLane were discharged in pursuance of the act of Congress of the 7th June 1785 — Returns of the monies advanced them on this station were transmitted to the several States to which the men belonged to be offered to the pension allow'd them in consequence of the said act — This pension was in lieu of the pay, & to commence from the time the men were discharged from their respective regiments or from the Invalid Regi[ment] late commanded by Col. Nicola.
Mr Pierce expecting that each state would comply with the act of Congress has not visited with the corps under the command of Capt McLane for the time they performed duty at that point — The Claim of John Wilson is therefore inadmissible unless evidence is produced that he has not received the benefit of the act of Congress aforesaid.

Gentlemen
The printed registers of Certificates issued by the Commissioners of Army Accounts are found in many [strikethrough: instances] instances erroneous — Some time since a partial examination took place and about 14000 numbers were checked to examine and check the residue I presume would take about 4 months —
