I now enclose agreeably to your request, the original papers relative to the business of Mr Clay in order to support the prosecution already commenced against him. They consist of
No 1 My Letter to Mr Clay informing him of the money being sent on —
2 A Letter from John White the Escort to Mr Clay informing him that he had lodged the sum of 67.60 dollars in the hands of Mr Alexander Subject to his order —
3 Wm L Alexanders Receipt for the sum of 67.60 dollars —
4 Mr Clays letter to me acknowledging himself accountable for the sum lodged by Mr White The Escort —
5 Mr Alexanders Account current with the United States as drawn by Mr Clay —
6 Mr Clays Account current with the United States wherein he debit the sum of 62.060 dollars as received by Mr White the Escort
I have also to inform you that I have recieved a letter from the Loan Office at Charleston, who informs me that he has received the sum of 27914 dollars of this Money for which Mr Clay is to be credited
