New York, May 9^th 1788 Sir Enclosed you will receive an extract of a letter from M^r Dunscomb to me as also one from me in answer thereto There being a probability that a certificate will now issue by the state of Virginia for the amount retained by the state on the settlement of the accounts of Doct. Goulds. — I have to request you to write to M^r Dunscomb and give him the authority to act in the manner directed by me and as soon as the Certificate & Cash is [strikethrough: sent] me I shall ^inform you of it. — I am Yours &c [signature] Doct Thomas Bond Report on the memorial of Mary Cransbury — Office of Army Accounts New York: May 10^th 1788 The Commissioners of Army Accounts to whom was referred the memorial of Mary Cransbury begs leave to report That the act of Congress of the 12^th of August 1780 recommends to the several States to make compensation to the officers & soldiers to them respectively belonging, for the depreciation of their pay. That the state of New York has in part complied with the said act, by making good the pay of Francis Cransbury from the day of his inlistment to the day of his captivity. — That the pay of the said Cransbury from that period to the time of his death does not appear to have been admitted, either by the State aforesaid or the United States. — and that your Commissioners however just the claim appears cannot grant any relief to the Petitioner as the act of Congress of the 2^d of November 1785 has foreclosed it Your Commissioners therefore begs leave to submit the following resolution. That it be recommended to the state of New York to make good the pay of Francis Cransbury late a soldier in the third battalion of New York forces from the 25 day of August 1778 to the 14^th of Sept^r 1780 inclusive, & charge the same to the United States all which is humbly submitted — Pierce Office of Army Accounts May 14^th 1788 Gentlemen Congress, from a consideration of the ill state of my health, having granted me leave of absence, and as my office will be rendered less secure by the removal of my family I have to request of your Hon^ble Board that you will be pleased to order the Treasurer of the United States to recieve what national papers I have remaining on hand, which will not be wanted in my office — I beg leave to inform your Hon^ble Board that the business of my office during my absence will be conducted by M^r Howell who I have continued my asistant for that purpose and from whom the Board will recieve all official communications I have the Honor &c The Hon^ble The Board of Treasury Pierce
