[Undecipherable] May 9<u.th 1788 Sir On settlment of Doctor Goulds account with the State of Virginia the Sume of L500 [Undecipherable] equal to L500. [Undecipherable] was decucted in consquince of that sum being received by him for the pay of the Regmiment of which he was paymaster and which at the time of Settlement could not be accounted for as the vouchers were mislaid. Your letter on the 8th of April last informs me those vouchers are now produced. I thereore preseume the State will exonerate the Doctor from that charge difsue the certificate for the sum retainer which I request you will immediately mae application for in my behalf and when obtained you will endeavor to forocure as much money on the Interest warrnets as possible and transmit me [Undecipherable]for the amount. If the whole cashe is not to be obtained for all the Interest warrents, you will please to dipose of the remainder to the best advantage. The certificate for the princible you will please to send me by the first post Your Letter relative to the State account I have promised to the Deligates of Virginia who will lay it before Congress if found necessary _ _ __ __ B Pierce
