and agreeably to your request has enclosed a Statement of the accounts of the late colonel [undecipherable] by which you will find that a large balance apparently is due the United States
On the 14th of May 1787 I wrote to Mr [undecipherable] on the subject of those accounts & informed him the reason which induced Mr Pierce to request Mr Welch to retain the half pay from him — If the heirs will discharge the balance that appears due the United States I shall be happy in complying with the wishes of Mr Welch and will transmit him the necessary Certificate to enable him to close the account with the United States

By desire of friends I enclose you two claims which you will be pleased to present to Mr Burrell for settlement & return me the Certificates that may [be] due —
Do you intend writing me? — Pray let me hear from you and say whether any States have their accounts in this your office — how they Stand &c &c.
I am pretty sure you could find time & matter to convey what would give me pleasure — do try — [undecipherable] take of your neglect with me for — I have a room full to attend to, and yet I fear I hate not & favored enough — we work almost double time — In hast your friend indeed —
