Mendham 3d of March 1788 Sir I am sorry I have to give you the Trouble I am under the necessity of doing. I inclose you the certificate which you [were] so kind as to make out for me. Inclosed your [undecipherable] a Letter from the Treasurer of this state to me, by which you will see the objections which he [makes] to your certificate. I have to beg the continuance of your Favour so much as to make [undecipherable] another conformable to his directions, in particular please to certify that no Commutation was ever granted to me. I shall thank you to deliver the one you now make to Capt Thomas Randal or one of his clerks which shall call on you. I find I shall be obliged to go into New England at last the stopage of four hundred pounds is too much. I shall go as soon as the Winter breaks up and the ground a little settled, likely about the middle of April as the Roads in Connecticut will hardly answer before.
