[Copy of a letter to Gen'l Knox / [undecipherable] 14: [undecipherable] 38 / J. Huntington] [04727-#6] [McHenry / 1788 F 19]
Norwich Feby 14th 1788
Sir
In my letter of the 18 Ult. I Mentioned to the War Office a list of the Officers appointed in this State in pursuance of the Resolution of Congress of the 3d of Oct last
As these Officers are supposed to be all afforemen in actual service on [strikethrough: on] the frontier [strikethrough: frontier] it is anxious that I receive Jnformation as soon as may be whether the Officers accept their respective appointments
It is also represented to me will Judge it [undecipherable] to Order some officers into this State on the recruiting Service. The Non-commissioned officers & privates are to be [undecipherable: raised?] by voluntary Enlistment, as there are no officers for the State to [undecipherable] volunteers —
Will it not be Expedient that the recruiting officers receive from the War Office the particular terms & encouragements given to the [strikethrough: [undecipherable]] volunteers, by the Act of Congress as the act of the 3d of Oct last hath only a general reference to the former —
Soldiers in this State are always anxious to see the terms & encouragements offered, hold out [undecipherable] them in the most explicit manner —
With Sentiments of proper Consideration & Esteem
I am Sir your
humble Servt
S. Huntington
