Your Letter of the 8th Inst was this day received. your petition to Congress was referred to the Commissioners of the Treasury to report; in order to know their Sentiments I waited on them and am directed to inform you that they have reported, that "the accounts cannot be closed in their present situation" which report I suppose Congress will agree to. as Mr Pierce is expected every day, you will please to address him, or put your public Letters to me, under cover to him.
