Dear Sir
We are forming an alphabetical list of the Officers & Soldiers of the late army commencing with the time of their several appointments and Inlistments and ending with their several discharges &c — I have made an Entry of the Pennsylvania Line but am under the necessity of Stopping for want of some of the Muster & pay Rolls which are in your possession — the Muster & Pay Rolls from the date of Inlistment to the 1st of June 1777 are those I most want. I will particularly thank you if you will forward them by Post under cover to Mr Pierce which may be done in Packets of one Pound at a time beginning with the first. New Rolls I suppose are not of much consequence to you now and as they are essentially necessary to Complete the Business we are on I hope you will early comply with my Request.
I am &c
J. Howell
Jno. Nicholson Esqr.
