Sir,
I am honored with yours of the 13 of November last.
It would afford me pleasure were I authorized to comply with your request, respecting the compensation your mentions to have been taken in the services of the United States at the time of General Sullivan's expedition against Rhode Island, but it is entirely out of my province. I can only suggest to you, that there are commissioners appointed to liquidate and settle the claims of Individuals against the public, and on application being made to the department of the Treasury board it is probable something may be done in the business.
