Sir,
In answer to your Letter of 7 of August last, I am to Inform you, that if the Claims of the North Carolina Officers (yet unsettled) arrean Subsistance due to them can be Collected, attested, and Sent on to the Office, I will report the Situation to the Board of Treasury — The from the Presumption that these Officers have been Supplied with Rations from the Publick Magazines and as they have never made any Demand for it to the Commissioners while Settling the Accounts of the Line in North Carolina, there is reason to suppose very little can can be due to them and the Resolution of Congress Limiting the Claims of the Army to the 1 August 1786 will also debar them of a Settlement without a Special Order for the Purpose — I Inclose you a Copy of the Resolution of Congress Granting a commission of PCt to the Agents of Regiments not pertaining to the Line of any State —
