West Point February 3d 1790
Sir/
I have received your Letter of 16th Ultimo, and have hired the ten that is in fine which will inform to make the Camp Settlers, and have Contracted with Mr Brown to make 14 at the Sliding each, which with the 16 third opinion Burbank has on hand will Complete the three Companies —
If you Should think proper to have any more Camp Settlers made — at this time they Can be done — I mention this because Mr Brown does not make them himself and perhaps the Man that works with him may be gone when we Shall want them another time —
I Can also get from said Burbank for the barks — the Muskets which have made as low as for the Barks —
The wood that we have on hand (which is [undecipherable]) will not be Sufficient to last the troops that have had respect to the Last of April — which is 1 officer 75 or 90 Men under the Guard — and Lieut Driver informs me that he expects one or two officers with 60 or 70 Men in a few days from Springfield from what Captain Burbank has information — This wants 10 Cord to make do for the present Number — If you Should think proper to have four or more Puncheons I Can get 4 — now while the Sleding Lasts —
I now forward the Return of Ordnance and Ammunition Store for the Month of January 1790 —
The Honorable I am Sir &c
