Sir New York August 2^d 1787 I have this day received a letter from M^r [undecipherable] wherein he says "Doctor Bond has requested my attention to a claim of Doctor David Gould. I find Gould is charged with £2500 received by him from the State as Paymaster to the 2^d Virginia State Regt in March 1775 and the same is deducted from his acct the balance I have remitted to Doctor Bond in bills of exchange on Philadelphia if he is not there will you inform M^r Williams &c." This information is sent for your Government by [undecipherable] M^r Edw^d Williams [undecipherable: Howell] Dear Sir New York August 2^d 1787 Your letter of the 28^th Ulto came to hand this day, a few days since I also received your Packet containing a number of letters to & from you which shall be disposed of agreeably to your request. you will now receive an account current of Capt. James Deards as I taken from the the Books of the Office as also the charges which appear against him and by David Gould which are still unaccounted for — Doctor Bond is at present in Boston a few days since I had seen him and as he is requested to be informed of your [undecipherable] complicated his business in Virginia, I am now write you him the required information. I make no doubt the Doctor will call here on his way to Philadelphia and make a demand for an extension of his pay of which I have informed you — shall I grant him a [undecipherable: Receipt] for the pay? I shall write M^r Williams by this post and inform him of the Bills of Exchange being sent to the Doctor — You will please to inform M^r Duncomb that his letter of the 10^th of June only came to hand the 27^th Ulto that I cannot possibly attend to his request until the matters now before me are [undecipherable]. you will also oblige me by informing Col^l Henley that I have made enquiry relative to the [undecipherable] the land granted by Congress to their Officers will bring, and am informed they [are] unavailable — in all probability the lands will be worth nothing, in a few years as Congress have within a few days past [undecipherable] sell a large tract to the Massachusetts [undecipherable: Comp]y (Part of which I am informed [undecipherable: allotted] for the army)
