August 2^d 1787 Dear Sir Your letter of the 25^th Ulto. came to hand this day, a few days since I also received your Packet containing a number of Letters to & from you which shall be disposed of agreeably to your request. you will now receive an account Current of Cap^t. James Quarles as taken from the Books of the Office, as also the charges which appear against him and Cap^t. David Gould which are still unaccounted for — Doctor Bond is at Present in Boston, a few days since I heard from him and as he requested to be informed if you had completed his business in Virginia, I can now write & give him the required information I make no doubt the Doctor will call here on his way to Philadelphia and make a demand for an extension of his pay of which I have informed you — shall I grant him a Certificate for this pay? I shall write to M^r Williams by this post and inform him of the Bills of Exchange being sent on to the Doctor — You will please to inform M^r Dunscomb that his letter of the 19^th of June [underline: only came to hand] the 27^th Ulto.. that I cannot possibly attend to his request untill the accounts now before me are [undecipherable]. you will also oblige me by informing Colonel Henley that I have made inquiry relative to the price the land granted by Congress to their Officers will bring, and am informed they [undecipherable] unsaleable — in all probability the lands will be worth seeking in a few years as Congress have within a few days past agreed to sell a large tract Part of which to the Massachussetts Comp^y. (Part of which I am informed is Allotted for the army) the Company is to pay 1,000,000 down & the rest in Installments every six months and to be at the charge of surveying — Since M^r Swan's departure &c. have been busily employed Cap^t. Beatty's accounts are just on the close it has been the most complex piece of work I ever undertook — Cap^t Condy Paymaster to the Massachussetts Troops and the Paymaster of [undecipherable] Regiment are now waiting their accounts I expect from the completion of them will keep me untill your arrival, which I hope will not be postponed to a longer time than you are pleased to mention — Jn^o.
