[To the Board of Treasury July 30. 1787] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Gentlemen Richmond, July 30. 1787 [undecipherable] Henderson, [undecipherable] from [undecipherable] informs me that [undecipherable], who it is said had the money placed in [the] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] left with M^r Alexander, was lately in Charleston, that he had paid [undecipherable: away] all the money [undecipherable] to [undecipherable: different] people and that he has now [undecipherable] to [undecipherable: Augusta] in Georgia. I am [undecipherable] to sue. It appears to me, very probable, from the con-versation I had with the man [that he is] in pos-session of a considerable part of it, which he pre-[undecipherable] [undecipherable] and has now come out to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] and is a prey [undecipherable] on [undecipherable] [undecipherable]. I have used every attention to find out the persons holding the money, before it was too late [undecipherable], was [undecipherable] a [undecipherable: learning] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] taken with [undecipherable] altogether [undecipherable] that it could not be recovered. I am [undecipherable] but [undecipherable] liberty therefore to go [undecipherable] the Board [undecipherable] Walter Alexander will be found, in [undecipherable: immediate] [undecipherable: attachment] of [undecipherable], would be the most effectual way to bring the money back, but I [undecipherable] he is also in Georgia, a place so [undecipherable: lawless] that no compulsory measures will [undecipherable] be of consequence. I take the liberty however to request [that] the [undecipherable] [undecipherable: officers] of [undecipherable: Eastern] & Georgia, may be instructed by the Board, that the best [undecipherable: possible] [undecipherable] may [undecipherable]
