New York July 12th 1787 Sir Inclosed you will receive copies of the Accounts of Capt. Erasmus Gill by which you will find that he has received a Certificate from the Register for his pay & Rations from the date of Commission to the 1 of January 1782 his depreciation you inform me has been settled by the state of Virginia so that he has had two settlements for or the same time. Mr. Nicholson informs me that Mr. Gill has had no settlement with him.

If on your commencing business in the new department you should want more assistance a Gentleman by the name of Kirk Patrick has been recommended to me as a Clerk – he is well known by several members of Congress and others, writes a good hand and is a compleat accomptant. Misfortunes in Trade has reduced his circumstances and at present is unengaged – will you please to inform me in your next letter if you want such a person, as he wishes not to engage himself until your answer is obtained.
