New York June 10^th 1787 Sir, Your letter of the 1^st Instant was received on the 7^th at which time M^r Lovett was absent of which informed you in a letter of the 8^th Inst to his since obtained permission of the Board of Treasury to remain in Philadelphia till the last of the person centred there, for paying the futful claims, on reason which will be the 15^th next — I inclose to you a copy of Doctor Basil Middleton's letter to Colonel Barrington and of the Colonel certificate respecting his being in South Carolina in 1783 which appears to be insufficient to grant his pay for that year, the Doctor is not returned on the arrangement of the Virginia line for 1783 nor have we any account of him in this Office, note M^r Dunscomb's allotment which is for his pannunciation and pay for 1782 and to address is for his pannunciation and pay for 1782 you to address — Colonel Barrington thinks that if he did serve in 1783, it will be in his power to procure a certificate of the same from his Commanding Officer, which will sufficiently establish his claims. Colonel Barrington says he saw the Doctor in South Carolina in 1783 and that is all he knows about him.
