Mr Pierce's letter to you as usual from time to time, as soon as they come to hand — Mr Fels informed to day that he had received your letter of [undecipherable] —
I am Dr Sir,
Jos: Howell Esq. B. Savan
Richmond June 19th 1787
Dear Sir
If you will turn to the Roll of the Artillery you'll find two John Jones' belonging to the 1st Regt one of which did the duty of Waggoner to the Parks and is the one now in question, from this you will be able to determine what is desired. As well as I remember the Return was made just as they occurred on the Muster, or in the Waggoner you will be found second on the Roll of you join in opinion that this evidence is sufficient, please to send the Certificates — One other circumstance may justify my good judgement that neither of the two applied to me for their Pay, one being deceased — the other knowing too well the result of an application by a deserter —
If you will take a little trouble to look carefully over the returns of Harrisons Regt you will find some with probably J.W. or something [undecipherable]
