Mr. Weisner's Account for Saltpetre
Document 1787Price only just received Knox's letter of February 6 regarding the saltpetre lend the United States. In 1781, Price recalls receiving saltpetre from Mr. Wesiner of Goshen, some of which was refined and some of which was not. The saltpetre used in the fireworks in 1783 was French nitre from Springfield. Pierce cannot give Weisner any certificate without knowing the quantity, which Weisner says was 480 pounds including casks. Price thinks Weisner should make out an account, which can be made up by weighing empty barrels.
