Instructions for Accounts for Soldiers' Pay & Clothing
Document 1787Knox notes that he recently drew orders on Wadsworth, in favor of Capt. John Bryant, for $200, and in favor of Maj. William North, for $498 with which to pay the two companies of artillery at Springfield. Asks Wadsworth to send accounts of all supplies rendered, that Knox may forward them to the comptroller. Knox notes he is leaving for Philadelphia; directs Wadsworth to either prepare to deliver the remaining money in his hands or to send it to Knox there, "in the manner you propose respecting Mr. Greene's money" [presumably the late Nathanael Greene]. Mentions enclosed [bank?]note [not included] from Mr. Willcox for $102.50, the surplus amount of the clothing account out of monies received for that purpose. Asks that Wadsworth notify him of the receipt of Willcox's note.
