Dear Sir
Your letter of May 17th & 23 are received. I have written by this Post to the Board of Treasury in your favor and desired them to give you an appointment to such States as will not make it necessary for you to leave my Office before my return. It is uncertain how long this business will require and as I have taken the whole affair anew from the Vouchers if you can prevail on the Board to let Mr Swan join me, it would hasten my return very considerably. The Auditors papers must be arranged as they will be wanted to be in the Settlements of the State Accounts, and I believe place them in the order they were formerly will be best — I perceive by your Register you have given a Certificate to Mr Skinner, which I fear is improper. I doubt whether he is entitled to pay and if he is there will be a balance against him on the old money Accounts of about 15 or 20,000 Dollars —
