Letter from the Secretary of War 9th May 1787 Enclosing a Return of the Millitary Stores in Rhodes Island War Office May 9th 1787 Sir Your Letter of the 23d ultimo acknowledging the receipt of the public arms and accoutrements from Major William Allen has come to hand I now enclose to you a copy of a return of military stores the property of the United States deposited in Rhode Island under the care of Mr. Josiah Flagg and an order for you to receive them from him. In the transacting this business I have to request that you will take the possible to have a return of all the articles which you shall receive from Mr. Flagg and signed by him with your receipt Hereto made out and forwarded to this offics _ as there hasnever been any order for the delivery of any part of these Stores it is to be expected that all the articles specified in the within return are to be found in Mr. Flagg’s care, but in case of any alteration you will please to have the same noted together with the reasons for the same an I also insist you would inform me [?] of the real state and condition of the stores which are to be placed in your care at the risk of the public an all necessary expences of storage collection and removal to be reimburesd to you on your finishing an account thereof supported by full an sufficient vouchers I am Sir With real esteem Your most obedient humble Servant H.
