War Office April 14th 1787
Sir
I beg you to receive of Major Wm Allen, the arms and accoutrements mentioned in the enclosed return, and safely store them in Providence. — I am also to request to be informed whether you would take charge of the ordnance and stores now in Rhode Island in the charge of Mr Josiah [undecipherable] — If this should be the case I will forward you the return of the quantity he ought to have on hand, and an order for delivery to you —.
As the Stores will require only to be safely kept, I shall be unable to allow any great sum to the person having them in charge.
