Office of Army Accounts Dear Sir, New York March 16. 1787 Inclosed you will receive a Recruiting Account of Cap^t (late Lieu^t) John Savage accompanied by two Acc^ts Current— As I am not possessed of the Muster Rolls of the late 6^th Reg^t earlier than for the month of August 1777 I am under the necessity of requesting You to examine the Pay Rolls from the date of Inlistment to the 1^st July left with you and see if Samuel Rogers, John Jenkins, John Smith William Tate & John Lalley are inserted for their Pay— those men are not on the musters in this Office & therefore cannot at present be admitted to the Credit of M^r. Savage this has induced me to make two Accounts Current wherein you will please to observe in the first that M^r. Savage is in debt to the United States and in the second in case those men are found that a balance is due him. If the names of or any of those Men are found by you, you will please to insert their Bounty in the Recruiting Acc and transmit M^r. Pierce a Certificate of their being legally mustered— or paid, that I may be enabled to close M^r. Savage's Acc. and receive the necessary Certificate to procure his depreciation as a Supernumerary Officer— A few days since I wrote you a few lines in respect to my depreciation— may I crave an answer with your opinion thereon it will oblige D^r.
