Dear Sir, New York March 16. 1787
Inclosed you will receive a Recruiting Account of Captain [undecipherable: late] Lieut John Savage accompanied by [undecipherable] Current — Tho I am not in possession of the Muster Rolls of the late 6th Regt earlier than for the month of August 1777 I am under the necessity of requesting You to examine the Pay Rolls from the date of Enlistment to the 1st of July left with you and as if Samuel Rogers, John Jenkins, John Smith William Dale & John LaRoy are inserted for their Pay — those men are not in the musters [undecipherable] & therefore I cannot at present be admitted to the Credit of Mr Savage this has induced me to make his Accounts present wherein you will please to swear in the first that Mr Savage is in debt to the United States and for the second in case those men are found that a balance is due him if the names of a any of those Men are found by you, you will please to insert their Bounty in the Recruiting Act and transmit Mr [undecipherable] a [undecipherable: Certificate] of their being legally mustered —
