[106] Office of Army Accounts Dear Sir, New York March 16. 1787 Inclosed you will receive a Recruiting Account of Captain [late] John Savage accompanied by twelve [undecipherable] — the [undecipherable] of the Muster Rolls of the late 6^th Reg^t earlier than for the month of August 1777 I am under the necessity of requesting you to examine the Pay Rolls from the date of Enlistment to the 1^st of July last left with you and of Samuel Rogers, John Jenkins, John Smittle William Dale & John [undecipherable] are [undecipherable] for their Pay — these men are not in the muster [Roll] therefore & therefore I cannot at present be admitted to the Credit of M^r Savage this has induced me to make his Accounts present wherein you will please to Shew in the first that M^r Savage is in debt to the United States and in the second in case these men are found that a balance is due him if the names of any of these Men are found by you, you will please to insert their Bounty in the Recruiting [Att?] and transmit M^r [undecipherable] a [undecipherable] of their being legally mustered — regard that I may be enabled to close M^r Savages Acc^t and to receive the necessary Certificate to prove his [undecipherable] as [undecipherable] Officer — A few days since I sent you a few lines in respect to my [depreciation?] [undecipherable] and answer with your [opinion?] thereon it will oblige D^r Sir John Nicholson Esq^r J[undecipherable] Howell Jun^r P.S.
