Office of Army Accounts New York March 5. 1787 Sir Agreeably to your request, I enclose copies of the Roll and accounts exhibited by Jett. Warner to the pay of his company of [undecipherable] in the year 1783. Warner applied [undecipherable] a further pay due to his company, but he could not receive it sufficiently or the company appears that he, [was] entitled to it, and indeed the probability is that they were then discharg'd as noted in his Roll, and that he being personally detained, received the further [undecipherable] of nine days in consequence of it. It is a well [undecipherable] to admit claims of so long a standing, when a compleat settlement appears to be [undecipherable] the time, [undecipherable] the claimant [undecipherable] produce evidence of [his demand], by some original [paper] or [undecipherable], that has existed since the [undecipherable] time of the service. It is so easy to obtain from memory or any [undecipherable] post facto certificates, that no reliance can be placed in them. [undecipherable] had established his account in this manner, it would still be necessary for him to make appear that he had paid it to his men in order to entitle him to receive it.
