[Honorable Board of Treasury July 24. 1787 Copied] [oval drawn] Gentlemen I have examined the claim of M^r Laneuville agreeably to the directions of your honorable Bo[ard] of the 15^th Instant and find, That he was appointed Inspector to the northern [army — right margin cut off] [undecipherable] 14^th of May 1778, [a Briga— right margin cut off] 14 of Feb. following, to take place on the 14^th of August, and that he was discharged from the service on the 4^th of December the same year That he has been paid by the United States the pay of his respective appointments from his entrance into the service to the first Day of January 1779. That the Resolution of Congress of the 18^th Day of April 1780 under which the Officers of the late Army have received a depreciation on their pay, has confined this grant to those then in the actual service of the United States, which [strikethrough: continuation] [interlined: occupation] I find that Congress have adhered to in their several resolutions of Aug. 8. 1780. May 15^th Aug 12. [undecipherable] and July 3^d 1786. I am therefore of opinion that, M^r Laneuville [undecipherable] was not at the time of [undecipherable] this [undecipherable] in the Service, his [undecipherable] not be admitted to petition for [undecipherable] cannot be admitted, agreeably to the [principles] adopted in [other] cases of this nation [Office of Army Accts July 24. 1787]
