New York Feb^y 23. 1787 Sir I have received your letter of the 12^th containing a final settlement certificate number [undecipherable] appearing to be received 94.035 in favor of Samuel [undecipherable] [undecipherable] for [undecipherable] near eighty [undecipherable], which you desire me to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] This certificate was sign'd by me originally for [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to amount 43.284 and in [favor?] of [undecipherable] Brown. that the whole [undecipherable] of the writing on this [undecipherable] except my usual writing has been [undecipherable] & from this Paper by some mixture, and that [it] has been inserted with no alteration [undecipherable] the present [undecipherable] upon being an exact duplicate of [the] original certificate which I sign'd to a [Capt.] Samuel [Muler], an Officer of [Col.] [undecipherable] Regiment. I am therefore [determined] this certificate be [undecipherable] further examination and [am] to request that if the person who applied for the interest to be [found], that his [undecipherable] signs and [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] his conduct [undecipherable] letter sign and [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] I have reason to believe that the same person has [undecipherable] certificate at [undecipherable] [undecipherable] different parts of this [continent], I make this [undecipherable] it will [undecipherable] [undecipherable] this [undecipherable]: if you [undecipherable] [undecipherable] furnish me with a description of [the] person.
