Sir The certificate N 34,725 which I received from you, I have and on which a person is now confined in Goal supposing it to be counterfeited, has been examined by me, by the private clerks of the Office and I find that the [undecipherable] was originally issued for N 11,702 and [undecipherable] has been had the Ink taken [undecipherable] out both on the [undecipherable] very great [undecipherable] my [undecipherable], and that it has been filled up so as to exactly answer as a duplicate the original certificate issued on N 34,[undecipherable] issued by me. The present is therefore only a continuation of the plan of the [not a part of] attended certificates, and the present not stolen from my Office as I at first supposed. There has been a certificate sent to me from the [Loan?] Officer of Connecticut [undecipherable] in the same manner [as the above number] which was presented by [John?] [Gobbs?] on the 25^th of January last, who I suppose to be the same villain that has been bailed from your Goal.
