To Col Jonathan Strout
Harlem July 7th 1797
Sir
Your complaint again to Col Baldwin aggt his movement puts into my hands. I am very unhappy that any thing Should have taken place, which tends to create the dissatisfaction among the Officers, especially that it must be caused by disrespect to the Enemy which duties undoubtedly to give aid Reputation to the Division. The Troops are now just commencing their march for Frederica where by a letter from General Patterson I am posted to arrive as soon as possible as the Spaniards are collecting at different parts to cause menacing the most affect to Government — this will prevent my holding the tryal here to bring Col Baldwin to a trial.
2 if you can make it convenient to join us any where within the trial I will appoint a Court; two expedients tried would be a very improper one, it would not probably give you that Satisfaction which you might justly expect — One of my family can inform you both your address on the Subject.
