New York July 6. 1787 [undecipherable] [undecipherable] E[sq] [seal] New York July 6. 1787 Dear Sir, Your two letters of Dec 15 & 20 of January are received and I have examined the account of the monies amounting I judge, to be accounted for and find, that [undecipherable] — about to leave [undecipherable] the $5,894.60 already accounted for by him, That Capt. Jacob Fitzgerald has not [undecipherable: reld?] the 500 Dols with the Auditors of the Main Army, nor has Jno R. Holt the 240, nor has Talafero the $200. Dols. 2d That Capt. Mizner is charged generally to the amount [undecipherable] account with these $9000 Dols, one of which he has accounted for, but the others stand against him, or some other persons of that nature, the cause having not been acknowledged or distinct from many accounts. The charge against Holman Mizner for 500 Dols has been accounted for. The $12,000 charged to [undecipherable] power of right and ability to be accounted for by him, and of no others. The $32,000 Dols charged to Talafero & Morrison has made no return of as accounted to him. A [undecipherable] mismanagement against [undecipherable] Talafero the enclosed paper indicates [undecipherable] identified by the returns and papers ordered by you in your letter of [undecipherable] so most of their of no importance. The principal papers, unless I want from you are the matters to this Auditor Duly taken by you are of your leaving out the report aforesaid, for this purpose of [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] should be in your office, then I want them for the same reason and to return them to the office from whence they were taken. The attestation to the last certificates is not so full as I wished it — your [undecipherable: dictionary?] may perhaps explain these — that you received blank certificates from one company, [undecipherable] numbered and signed, that in filling them up you were obliged to leave each of the number blank, what you — [undecipherable] wrong [undecipherable] filled, otherwise [undecipherable] defined — that N° 37,915 was the [undecipherable: error] of those defined by him in such manner as totally destroy its validity — but was by some mischievous [undecipherable: lesser mistake] and not to be found by you, for which reason you are unable to produce this account and on the returns of your account of certificates you received from me.
