Dear Sir
I received you in my letter of October 19th that an account wherein you had made a mistake of one hundred Dollars but the name of the Officer was omitted, for which reason I am uncertain whether it was the one indorsed Doctor Jno [undecipherable] or not. I therefore inclose it and request if it is not name Riddic that you would attempt to get this sum back from him.

Your Letter of the 3d instant is received enclosing a warrant for one Hundred Dollars and also of two army receipts taken by Colonel Harmar, according to the general Principles of Public business, office of receipts & vouchers are not a ground to authenticate a charge against any Officer, and therefore admitting them in this instance as a credit to the Colonel before the Officer has by their settlement acknowledged the same, is improper. I am not however returned the Papers as you requested, because I shall want them when the accounts of the forces are settled, if the receipts are not then forwarded, which I hope will be the case.
