My Worthy Friend
The long Friendship that has subsisted between us finds me to trouble you at this time the more especially as I expect it will come immediately in your department as Auditor of the Public Accounts what I would wish you to trouble yourself is with regard to my accounts with the Public in recruiting my Company & in settling my Deficiency of Wages which was paid up to me ’till the 1st of August 1778 & I resigned my Commission in April 1780 the most of my papers was taken from me by the British at the Battle of Brandiwine but my Muster Rolls I expect can be found in the Public Office and as their must be a very considerable balance in my favor I would take it as a very particular obligation in you to trouble yourself in my favor and should it ever lay in my way I will amply repay the obligation your answer to this with instructions how I shall proceed will much oblige Your old Friend &c
